A Day In The Life (8-14-2013)

Well it's been a while since I have posted a day in the life of us post so I documented our day last Wednesday. It is really quite interesting to see how my days have changed. I no longer have diapers to change, bottles to make, constantly running after a baby, and I don't have to do it all by myself now. Baby A is potty trained and so much more independent, Tim doesn't travel anymore and is home from work by 4:30 and life just seems to be a calmer breeze right now. Oh I guess that may be stretching it........ I have replaced "baby years" with algebra homework, 3 year old melt downs, preteen attitudes, fights over video games and a 7 year old that LOVES to just pester any close being (including the dog). Not so easy but definitely different.

So here goes... my days start at 5:30 every morning (with the exception of Saturdays):
* 5:30- The alarm goes off and Tim and I both get up together. Tim gets ready for work while I take Lucy out to potty (That's when I notice how fall like the weather is that day), iron his clothes (but this isn't a daily thing anymore since he can wear jeans and a polo to work), make our coffee and then fix his lunch. Once his lunch is all packed up, I make our breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs each with 3 slices of turkey bacon and a glass of milk. Then we enjoy breakfast together EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! just the two of us (can you tell how much I love this?!?!).
*6:30- Tim is about to leave for work and we hear Baby A wake up. While Tim gets her out of bed, I make her milk cup. Then Baby A and I say goodbye to Tim at the front door.
*6:35- I make Baby A her breakfast (a frozen sausage and biscuit) and start her Curious George dvd. (Can I just say what a life saver Curious George episodes are!!!!)
* 6:40- I head upstairs to wake up the boys and then get their breakfast ready for them (the third time I have made breakfast in one day) Scooter ate a frozen sausage and biscuit and Rascal had frozen french toast sticks.
*6:55- While the boys eat their breakfast I go get ready for the day. I shower at nights so I can be ready in less than 30 minutes in the morning.
*7:05- I check on the boys to make sure they are staying on track and getting ready. Most days I am Drill Sergeant Mom but this morning wasn't that way. Things seemed to go very smoothly.  Scooter is almost completely ready and Rascal is working at a slower pace (this is very typical).
*7:15- I am completely ready and I start getting Baby A dressed and ready to go. Scooter is ready to walk out the door so he gets time on his ds before school. Rascal is still working at a slower pace. I try to hurry him up but there is no way to do that.. he just isn't a morning person. I get his hair fixed for him and he is then off to pack up his bag.
*7:25- Every body is ready to go and Rascal sits down for less than 5 minutes and then it's time to load up the van.
*7:30- We are all loaded up in the van and backing out the drive. If I can leave our house right at 7:30 then the boys aren't so early that they have to wait in the gym (they hate this) and they aren't late to class either. Basically it's the best time to leave so that they can get to school and walk into their class as the bell rings. I should get supermom points for figuring that time frame out!
*7:45- We leave the school after dropping off the boys and  head to fill the van up with gas. On the way back home Baby A and I enjoy the upper 60's temperatures and roll the windows down and open the sunroof.
*8:10- We are back home and have decided to push back housework and soak up the glorious weather. We meet up with Tammy and head out for a walk.
*9:05- We finish our walk and head in to get ready for preschool work. I take Lucy potty and give my mom a phone call.
*9:15- It's time to start preschool. Baby A gets to paint with an apple stamp, practice her cutting skills by cutting up straws to make a necklace, review her colors and counts objects up to three. We also make a brown bag bear puppet and she pretends the bear is speaking while I read her a book.
*10:45- Preschool work is done (a little longer today since there was paint and making a necklace involved) and I start making her lunch. She wants salami, blueberry yogurt, some chips and a chocolate milk for her lunch. I sit her down in the living room to watch Cinderella and eat her lunch. This is a reward since she did so FANTASTIC at her school work that day. While she is eating her lunch and watching Cinderella I make my salad and take Lucy potty.
*11:30- Baby A is done with her lunch and asking to go to sleep. She is always ready for her nap at 11:30 every day. We don't stick to a nap schedule but if we are at home this is when she typically goes down for her nap.
*11:35- I take Lucy potty and then start a load of laundry. Then I get to sit down and eat my salad.
*11:45- 1:15- I sit down to read a few blogs, search for preschool ideas on Pintrest, write a blog post to schedule for another day.
* 1:15- Baby A is awake and ready to finish her Cinderella movie with a snack. This is the time of the day when I get very sleepy so to keep me from getting too sleepy I love to snack on sunflower seeds.
*2:10- We head to go pick up the boys. School lets out at 2:35 but car line starts lining up earlier than that.
*2:20- We are at school in car line and while Baby A chills in her carseat with her baby doll, I read my bible.
*2:40- School is out and car line is starting to move. We wait our turn to pick up Scooter and Rascal. The car ride home is always chaotic. EVERYONE is trying to talk at once and tell me about their day (even Baby A who I have been with all day). It gets a little crazy but by the time we get home everyone has said what they wanted to say to me.
*2:55- It's time to go through back packs, fix the boys a snack and then I start a little bit of housework, while the boys play. It's just the first full week of school so homework hasn't started being assigned yet (PRAISE THE LORD!).
*4:00- Tim calls and is on his way home.  I start cooking dinner. It's Wednesday so that means we have to hurry so we have time to get to church.
*4:30- Tim is home and I am trying to finish up dinner so we can eat, clean the kitchen and get ready to leave for church.
*5:30- Tim has a meeting at church so we leave early.
*6:00- 8:30: Church
*9:00- Home and time to get the kids ready for bed.
9:30- Kids are in bed. Tim and I read for a little bit and then we turn in for the night.

A day in the life

I love to post about what life for us is like some days. I had already decided to record this past Tuesday because I knew we didn't have a lot going on. It was just a typical day. It never fails there is always something........

**6:45am ~ Baby A is wide awake and I was not ready to get up! I had gone to bed at midnight and needed more sleep. Looked like coffee was going to be my life line!
**7:00am ~ I decided to make home made waffles for the kids. My in-laws had an extra waffle maker so I took it and was pretty excited about trying it out. It wasn't going so great for me:

Yep big fat fail!

**7:30am ~ clean up my big fat mess and drink som coffee. Should have know better to try and function before coffee!
**8:00am ~ the boys wake up and are impressed with my waffle making skills. I let them in on my beginners fail
**8:30am ~ breakfast is over and the boys get a little bit of video game time. I head to get ready to run a few errands.
**9:00am ~ It' time to load up the van, after finding 4 pairs of shoes, a sippy cup, keys and cell phone. Oh and I answer approx 8 text messages in a 5 minute time frame.
**9:30am ~ We are at the grocery store and head in to get just a few things. I decide to let Baby A walk with her brothers since it will be a quick trip. Famous last words..... She was fascinated withevery thing at her eye level. Took FOREVER to get out of there.
**10:00am ~ we are gettingback into the van and Scooter notices a weird smell. I get in and smell it also but thought maybe it was something outside. The smell doesn't go away though....
**10:15am ~ while I am filling out some envelopes that I need to mail, Rascal yells from the back of the van.... GROSS! It looks like cheese!! I ask what on earth is he talking about. His reply.... "my milk cup (from the day before) spilled and now the milk looks like cheese. LOVELY!!
**10:30am ~ We are at the post office and the I get a glimpse of what Rascal was talking about:

DISGUSTING!!

Baby A turns on the charm in the post office and wins every one with her smile and dimple.
**10:45 we get home and I unload the van, head straight inside to get the cleaner and head back out in the heat to start tacklinng the spilled milk. GAG! I leave Baby A inside with the boys for what I thought would be a quick cleaning. I was wrong! I got in the back seat and found melted crayons, spilled bubbles, paper and so many crumbs! I had no clue the boys even had this stuff in the van at one time or another.
I bring Baby A outside so I can keep a better eye on her and start my cleaning.
I needed the shop vac but when I went to get it out of the garage I found this:

The boys set a "trap" to catch animals .... in the garage..... where the only animal that goes in there is Henry the cat. Poor cat! I manuver through it all to only find more ropes and knots:

** 11:30am ~ I finish cleaning up the van and head in sweating profusely. Baby A is pitching a fit because A) she is tired B) she is hungry C) she is hot and D) she was just pulled away from pushing every button in the van and applying chap stick repeatedly for the past hour or more.
** 11:45am ~ Lunch time.... there was no choice for the day. It was left over spaghetti or go hungry...... no if ands or buts! One out of the 3 ate it.....
** 12:30 pm ~ I get sick of trying to get the boys to stop playing around and just eat so I call lunchtime over...... whether they are finished or not!
**12:40pm ~ I get a great hairbrained idea to post pone Baby A's nap a little so I can take everything out of her room (which isn't much), dust vacuum, rearrange and bring in the toddler bed. She was excited and VERY ready for a nap.
**1:15 pm ~ I lay Baby A down for her nap in her big girl bed. More on how that went in another post. I tell the boys to go hang out in the living room like they always do suring her nap and I head to start working on cleaning our master bedroom.
**1:45 pm ~ Scooter decided to stand just outside Baby A's door and yell at Rascal for no important reason...... Baby A wakes up. I try to get her to lay back down butshe isn't having it. I put her back in the crib hoping for her to nap again.... no such luck! At least she was laying in her crib quietly for another good 45 minutes.
** 2:30 pm ~ I get another great idea to go though all the kids clothes to see what they have for fall, what goes to consignment or eBay and what needs to go to Goodwill.  It officially looks as if a closet threw up in the once recently cleaned master bedroom and Baby A's room.... what was I thinking?!?!?
**3:30pm ~ I tell the boys to get their room clean or they won't be going over to their friends house to spend the night that night. I have to encourage them every 10 minutes or so because apparently dancing around their room like fools is more fun (I am sure it is!).
**4:00 pm ~ The boys have their room cleaned and are now packing their bags to spend the night with friends.

**4:00pm until time to leave at 5:00 pm ~ I am trying to get all the clothes sorted so I can drop them off at Goodwill that same day. The boys procede to ask me every 10 minutes if it is time to go yet. I about lose my sanity! Baby A is trying on every single piece of clothing/ shoes even if they ar 3 sizes too small for her. This messes up my piles of what goes where and in return causes me more work. Telling her no would result in a melt down because she only had a 30 minute nap. I chose not to fight that battle...... I would have lost anyways!
**5:00pm ~ we load up the van to take the boys over to their friends house. I chat with their mom for a little bit and then head on to Goodwill.
** 5:30pm ~ I get home and fix Baby A her ham and cheese that she had been repeatedly requesting for the past 15 minutes. I fix leftover mexican and we sit down to have some fun mommy / daughter laughs and cuddles. I . LOVE. THOSE!!
** 6:30pm ~ Tim calls from San Antonio (oh yeah Tim was gone all week on a busines trip) to talk to me but Baby A wants to talk more. So we decide to skype (kind of like a video call.. we can see and hear him talking and he can see and hear us talking)  instead and she just eats that up! My kids are a HUGE fan of skype!
** 8:00pm ~ It is time for Baby A to go to bed. We attempted the big girl bed once again:

** 8:00pm until midnight ~ I am up trying to clean the rest of the house, blog, catch up on emails, and work on getting her birthday party together.
After that I hit the bed so I can wake up at 6:30 to start it all over again!
I am sure I left out something from the day but this best captures it all. Our life is anything but boring and I am all the time BUSY!
