Ok Confession time. Being a stay at home mommy is my "job" so therefore I have a really hard time making the kids help out with chores around the house. I feel like it's my job as a stay at home mom to keep my house clean. Well I am realizing that I am doing nothing good for my kids by not teaching how to do simple things around the house. So the other day I passed out cards to the boys with 5 things they had to do before having time on their ds or going outside to play.
Scooter always feeds Heidi and Rascal always feeds Henry, those aren't new things. I added to Scooter's list vacuuming, cleaning his bathroom, picking up the living room and collecting the dirty laundry from around the house. Rascal had to dust, pick up his (and Daniel since they share a room) room, clean up the garage and putting away the folded laundry. Baby A had to clean up her room and her playroom.
I was SO impressed by how well they did. I told them it had to be cleaned to my liking and boy did they ever do a great job! I didn't get before pictures but here are some after pictures of how well my KIDS (a 10 year old, 7 year old and 2 year old) cleaned up the house.
First here's the rooms Rascal cleaned up:
He didn't make their beds because I was heading upstairs to change the sheets.
Scooter cleaned up these rooms:
Baby A cleaned these rooms:
She was REALLY into cleaning so much so that she took upon herself to get the counter top cleaner and clean her bathroom:
She used nearly an entire bottle of cleaner but was SO proud of her clean toilet.
It still isn't easy to let them help out but I am realizing that it's only helping them out by teaching them (and it is majorly helping me out)
School starts back in about 2 (TWO) weeks so we are winding summer down.
Can't believe it's almost over!

I was washing dishes on a step stool at 5. Definitely think it's good for little ones to help out!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. It's hard to 'let' them help. I feel like them picking up their mess is enough for them to do at this point and staying home being my 'job' means me keeping things in order..as much as can be expected. I am SO impressed that they did all that! I am definitely going to be adding more to their chores this year.
