Memorial Day Weekend 2012

This post is FULL of pictures. 27 pictures to be exact. Sorry if your computer loads slow due to that!

This year our Memorial Day weekend was packed full of fun things to do but before the weekend got here we had a little shopping we needed to do:

(she is in the phase of saying cheese in every pic now)

Yep, we had to get the kids life vests....you know what that means.....LAKE TRIP!!

Friday night we ate our favorite dinner at home (fried rice) and then we let Scooter open his birthday gift from us. We got him a some more bb's for his bb gun, a football (a request of his), and a new baseball cap.
(He was THRILLED about the bb's)

After he opened his gift of course we had to shoot the bb gun and throw the football.

We stayed out until dark and then ran around the yard catching lighting bugs. I think our final count that we had caught was 17 lighting bugs. Nothing says summer like catching lighting bugs to me.

Saturday we hung around the house until after lunch and then took Rascal to a friend's birthday party. He rode go-carts, four wheelers and played his little heart out. We picked him up from the party and headed straight for Scooter's birthday dinner with Tim's family.

Scooter LOVES crab legs so his request for dinner was Red Lobster. We stuffed ourselves there and then headed back to Tim's parents for dessert and gifts. Scooter asked his Aunt Peggy to make her yummy Creme Brulee. What 9 year old knows what creme brulee is? and What 9 year old gets that as his birthday dinner. Scooter that is who and his Aunt Peggy has spoiled him (well all of us) rotten with her awesome desserts she makes.

He got tons of Pokemon cards, the first season of the Jetsons (I am loving this gift too), some Encyclopedia Brown books, a nice Bible story book, and some roller skates.

He asked for the skates after going to the skating party a few months back and he is still trying to get his balance on them. He will get the hang of it in no time.

Sunday we went to church all dressed up in our Western attire. Our church had a casual western themed service with a nice picnic after the service. My boys looked like naturals! Seriously they have the boots, the belt buckles, the hats and they can walk into any room and look like they just are cowboys naturally. I think it is adorable!!
( I didn't get pictures of them but here is one from Scooter's play....he wore the same thing)

We ate a bite at the picnic and then jumped in our loaded down van and headed to the lake!

Baby A was worn out and napped all the way to the lake.

Man my boys were so excited about going to the lake. My parents recently got a place on the lake and have all the fun toys that go with any lake trip. I was most excited to see my kids out on the lake. I grew up going to the lake so I knew how much fun it would be. I tried to tell them all about it but until they actually got there they really didn't know what to expect.

We wasted no time at all once we got there. We loaded up the boat and headed out on the water. This was Rascal and Baby A's first time on any kind of a boat. Scooter has been on a fishing boat but that was it.

Ready to go! I hate I cut their head off in this picture. Taking pictures outside on your phone is not easy!

We anchored down and took turns riding the jet skis around. Rascal warmed up to the jet skis with no problem and you couldn't get him off them. Scooter took a little more convincing to get on them. He has always been Mr. Cautious.
We finally talked him into getting on with his Papa and then he was hooked just like Rascal.

In fact Scooter was even tubing by himself behind the boat before we went home. I didn't get pictures of that. I was on the jet ski riding at a safe distance behind them so I could get him once he fell off.

Here they are in action.....Tim and Rascal are on the furthest right jet ski and Scooter and my dad are on the left blue jet ski.

Baby A was fearless. She would have walked right off the boat if we would have let her.

She's watching her brothers on the jet skis.

Taking a swim with mommy.

She loved to play in the water and splash and she begged to ride on the jet skis.

We didn't let her the first day and we were very hesitant at first but on the second day we got her on and she did AWESOME holding on. We took her for a few rides. Of course we didn't jump the waves, turn sharp, or go as fast as we did with the boys. We held them at about 20 MPH and she loved, LOVED, LOVED it! If you asked her is she was done she would shake her head no and say RIDE! :) SO cute!

Tim and I loved getting on different jet skis and zooming across the lake together.  It was so much fun!

I tubed behind the jet ski once (above pic) and it was so much fun but man I knew I was going to pay the next day. I am still SORE from doing that. Scooter rode twice behind the boat and says he isn't sore at all.....oh to be young like that and not be sore from all the fun. :)

We were only there for 1 1/2 days but we made the most of that time.

We stayed out on the boat from 2;30 until dinner time Sunday and we were up bright and early (due to some early rising children) Monday ready to head out for a full day on the water. I think we got on the boat at 8:30 (ish) and stayed on it until 3:00 that afternoon.

Baby A took 2 short naps on the boat while we anchored down. When she wasn't napping she was eating snacks.

If she wasn't saying "I hungry"  then she was saying "I seepy". They all did so great though and had so much fun and we all came back a shade tanner.

The boys are already asking when they can go back. It's a lot of work getting 3 kids ready for a day out on the water so I have to recover first. The laundry is piled up so high from the last few weeks being SO BUSY! This week is operation "clean this house" while the boys are off at their friends VBS every morning.

Hope your Memorial Day was great but I seriously doubt you had more fun than we did ;)!

  1. Well yeah you had a way more fun Memorial Day! I'm so excited for your kids! This is going to be a rockin' summer for them! And I've always been like Baby A.... something about being on the water just makes me hungry. And Aliyah's the same way, hungry or sleepy but she's too nosey to sleep unless my Dad 'drives' for a while to put her to sleep. ha!
