A Little Of This and That

So we have been making our own recipes for lots of things now for over a month. I have really enjoyed making things from scratch and I would say about 90% of the time things turn out just as the recipe says it will. The other 10% it just wasn't meant to be.
I tried to make a few things over the last month or so and it just didn't work for me.

One thing I was excited about was making my own fruit roll-ups. It was simply two ingredients and a simple oven baking, yeah it wasn't so simple to me. The fruit puree would not dehydrate and simply stayed in a wet pureed substance. Oh well I do have another recipe for some but it wouldn't be made from processed free foods. It uses marshmallows and jello. I might try it as a special treat for the kids.

I also tried making some avocado fries and that was a fail too. Well maybe I shouldn't say they were a fail since they were edible but they weren't yummy at all. They were a pain to make and not worth all the work.

I did make an AMAZING soup that will surely be a regular in this house now. It was a cannellini bean and kale soup. It was SUPER easy to make and was so so tasty! I made some homemade cornbread to go with it and it was a wonderful meal. I will try to update the recipe blog with it soon but I have been busy this week so it might not happen soon.

On a different note, I got a call from Baby A's allergist and she is NOT allergic to eggs! YAY! Just as I suspected. So we are possibly going to be getting a second opinion of just how severe Rascal's allergy is. We know for sure that he is allergic but I would like a second opinion on just how bad it is.

Baby A has started taking Allegra (1/4 tsp daily) and it has helped her tremendously with her runny noses and drainage. Looks like she might have allergies too.

Tim and I have decided to purchase 1/2 of a cow. We have never done this before but now that we have a deep freezer we wanted to stock up for a better pricier and better quality meat. Of course Tim have talked about this for a few weeks and tried to decide whether to buy a 1/2 of a cow or a full cow. You can only imagine what the boys thought when they overheard us saying this. This morning on the way to school Scooter decided to ask about it. I explained it to them so they wouldn't be disappointed wen we didn't bring a whole living cow home. Then rascal speaks up and says this....
"Cool, I like cow. It tastes good. Cow is really yummy but cow does get stuck in my teeth sometimes. That is what toothpicks are good for. I like toothpicks!"
I thought it was funny that he was referring to it as cow instead of beef and that he likes both cow and toothpicks!

Scooter is growing up so fast. I can really see in his personality that he isn't a little boy anymore but inching closer and closer to preteen (wow just typing that is frightening!). Tim and I both can see that he really needs to have alot of positive in with all the disciplining. He likes to talk back, slam doors, sigh and roll his eyes  and just be plain disrespectful. None of those are allowed in this home so it seems we are constantly disciplining him. As hard as it is going to be I really think that it is crucial right now to go out of my way to point out the positive in the middle of the many many negatives right. Scooter thrives off praise and encouragement, so we are going to have to try hard to make sure we stop what we are doing to praise him on the positive things. We have also decided to let him stay up 15 minutes later than Baby A and Rascal. Rascal will not be a fan of this but we have noticed that when Scooter has us to himself he opens up to us and just relaxes a ton. So that 15 minutes will not be spent on the ds or with the laptop but just time to sit and talk about the day or whatever he wants to talk about,. Hopefully this will helps with the disrespectful behaviour but we never know until we try it.

I tried to make cupcakes for Scooter's Hoot of the Week treat but they were a huge fail. My cake was supposed to be blue and the icing was supposed to be red. Well my cake ended up teal and the icing was pink. It looked like a perfect baby shower cupcake, Needless to say that wouldn't work for his class treat so we will keep the cupcakes ourselves and I will make cookies for him to take. Hopefully those will turn out fine.

Last night in the nursery Baby A stick her hip out to the side all sassy and was trying to tell the nursery worker something. It cracked me up. She was so dramatic, sassy and 100% girl. We also went to visit with my friend Jana this week and Baby A was perfectly fine staying close by me and "organizing" the clothes I brought to Jana. She didn't seem to mind that the rest of the kids were in the back playing, she was content playing with the piles of clothes.

  1. It's such a bummer when all your hard work flops. But just your effort in trying to make healthier foods for your family shows what a wonderful Mom you are! That is SO funny with Baby A and her little sassy girly self!
