Advent Activities

Well the paper snowflakes went over very very well. I figured after maybe 2 snowflakes the boys would be over it. I had enough blue paper to make 7 snowflakes. Much to my surprise once those were done the boys wanted to do more. So we got out pink, orange, purple and black paper and made more. After all who said paper snowflakes have to be white?!?!
Here are the pictures I took while the boys were so intensely making their snowflakes:

(not really sure why Rascal changed into pj's and I guess I was too into cutting snowflakes because I don't remember him getting up to do so)

I plan on hanging them up in our kitchen window but have yet to do so.

Last night our activity was Listening to Christmas Music in the van. I was at Ladies Tea at our church and I knew we would be getting home late with no time for crafts. Tim picked up dinner (which is a treat since we NEVER do that) and watched the kids over at his parents house while I was at the tea. That deserves a whole post by itself so maybe I will get to it later. The name we had last night was Wonderful Counselor and the scripture was Isaiah 9:6. We got home way to late and all the kids were asleep so we will read that and discuss it tonight.

Today they opened envelope #3 and found out that they get to open one (there is only one gift for each child under there right now)gift under the tree. What they don't know is that I made them another pair of fleece pj pants and wrapped them. So they will open that gift and then wear their new pj pants to bed. The name we have tonight is The Mighty God. Our scripture is the same as last night (Isaiah 9:6) so it works out that we will discuss both last night and tonight's at one time.

I will go ahead and say that tomorrow we will be taking the kids to Bass Pro Shop to see Santa. It will have to be an afternoon activity since we have church at night. We have a busy busy afternoon so I am hoping we can fit this in without temper tantrums and such. The kids don't know that we are doing that but since we will be so busy tomorrow I thought I would go ahead and post about it.

I'll be back to post about our other activities next week but for now I will end this post with something that I read on Hyperactive Lu's blog. I LOVED the way it described advent and couldn't have said it better myself.

"Advent, formed from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival,” is about the coming of

Christ. It’s the celebration of the first advent of Jesus and the anxious awaiting of His second.

The season is a time for remembering and rejoicing, watching and waiting, and a time to

reflect upon the promises of God and to anticipate the fulfillment of those promises with

patience, prayer and preparedness."                  The Village Church, Advent Guide
