Recently we started a few new things in our house and so far hey are going really well. You may remember me posting about how to get Scooter organized. Well we sat down together and came up with a system. Each day at school he has a chance to do 4 things and earn 4 rocks in a jar at home. These four things are:
1) no drawing or making spinners
2) Put everything where it belongs
3) write in his agenda book daily
4) turn all things promptly
So far this has really helped him. He has done all four "rules" most every day and when he forgets to do something he gets a rock taken out of the jar for that one thing. Once he hits 20 rocks in his jar (which could be reached if he didn't everything right every single day) he gets a reward. This may be extra video game time, staying up late, a small treat etc...
We are hoping this cures his habit of losing papers and forgetting hw.
We also started an "I caught you being good board"
I works like this:
When the kids are caught doing something good (a good attitude, or doing something without being told, helping out around the house without being told, helping others or putting their needs first etc.. ) then they get a mark on the board. Once they have 5 marks they can trade in the marks for 10 min extra video game time or they can save them and try to get to 10 marks. Ten marks can be traded in for one night staying up 15 minutes late. Or if they chose they can save up to 20 marks and get a special treat like ice cream. Just as easy as marks can be given, marks can also be taken away for disobedience. We are hoping this will help us focus on the positive and also teach our kids to think of others and not just of themselves.
We took a week off of preschool mainly because I was just too busy to fit it in.
Baby A was begging to get back to it the next week and I was pleased with how much she remembered
She knows 3 bible verses, 2 nursery rhymes, all of her colors and shapes and can count objects up to 5.
She is getting much better at tracing her name too. I may start leaving some letters out and letting her write them on her own without tracing them.
I introduced he to block patterns.
I traced some of her mega blocks and colored patterns on the "towers"
Then I showed her a picture and had her make that towers by stacking the right colored blocks together.
She really liked doing this a lot.
Nanny gave her a necklace kit a few weeks ago and we sat down to make a necklace. She had a hard time pushing the elastic through the beads so I put a needles on the end of the elastic. I sat there with her and told her how to do it. She did so well!
I have never seen her so quiet before. She was seriously concentrating.
And her finished necklace:
We had leftover beads so I plan to make an alphabet necklace to help her learn her letters.
I have a bunch of fun ideas for our schooling in the next few weeks. Some of those include a science experiment that goes along with Humpty Dumpty , a science experiment called what animals eat apples, a fun mailbox and shape game, and some fun ocean themed crafts. I will make sure to get lots of pictures of it all.
