Random Picture Recap

Well we been busy busy busy bees around here. So to catch up on lots of things going on I thought a random post would be best. Here goes:

Last week was vacation bible school at our church. I volunteered like I always do so Baby A stayed with her Paw. They had a great time having tea parties with real china and her dolls were guests too.

I was WORN OUT every day but it was a great week.

A few weeks ago, we met up with Ashlee and Levi and played on the playground.

Poor Baby A....it's a shame she has no personality.. HA!

It was HOT outside so we headed to get ice cream after playing for a while.

It was fun watching all the cousins play so well together.

We got signed up at our library for their summer reading program and all the kids got library cards too. My kids had so much fun at the library that it will most likely be a weekly thing for us to do.

I know country life is not for everyone but I can't say enough how much we love it. Just something about driving down country roads lined with cornfields on our way to the library makes me feel good. On the particular day we had a farmer flag us down and ask for us to pull over and park in one of those cornfields to make way for a HUGE combine that was on its way around the corner.

My kids like looking at the rows of corn up close and seeing the corn on the stalks and after about five minutes we all see this beast round the corner.

The kids waved to the farmer up in the combine and thought it was just the coolest thing.

And along the lines of crops... our small garden is doing fantastic so far. This picture was taken a few weeks ago and since then a storm tossed our tomato plants around.

One tomato plant is taller than Tim and it really got beat up by the storm. I hoping we don't lose the tomatoes that are on the plants. We also have 20 okra plants. Some of those look as if they may not make it but even if we lose a few we should still have a good amount of okra this year. Our jalapenos are doing fantastic and we have already been eating some of them.

I have had some issues with my insulin flare up again and have started researching insulin resistance (which is what I have). I ordered a book that I am loving and have had my eyes open to so much great information on how to reverse my insulin resistance. The main way to make things better and for me to start losing weight is to cut out most carbs. So this is what my breakfast looks like most mornings followed by a big salad for lunch and a low carb meal for dinner. Occasionally I have a snack of string cheese or cottage cheese but really I am not as hungry now that I am not filling up on so many carbs. Just to give you a little taste of what I have been dealing with... Since April I have been walking, cutting out some sugar and watching my portion size and have not dropped a single pound. Come May I increased my walk to 4 miles in one hour and cut out more sugar and after one month had still not lost a single pound. Then I started researching and eating low carb and after 2 full weeks of really sticking to my low carb way of eating and cutting out nearly ALL sugar, I finally lost 5 pounds. Insulin resistance makes it nearly impossible to lose weight without taking a glucophage medication. I am however trying to do anything I can before getting on this medication. The ever so slight weight loss just showed me that it can be done. Its a long hard journey but I am determined to do it. And honestly now that I haven't had as many carbs I don't crave them nearly as much. It gets easier and easier everyday and I am feeling much much better too. If only I could get my energy back but one step at a time... one step at a time!

  1. I just noticed you too have insulin resistance. Just as important as cutting carbs is eating a low glycemic diet. Grapes, bananas, pineapple, peaches, plums, etc... are very high in sugar are not well tolerated by those with insulin resistance. The same is said for green peas, corn, carrots, and other starchy veggies. I have lost over 100lbs since moving to Florida and drastically changing my diet. No carb, no sugar, no butter, no oil, low glycemic. I will say, that though you are not very interested in taking medication for your condition, it does help. I took metformin for years and it didn't help me. However, Victoza (a med typically given to type 2 diabetics) has made a huge difference. -Lesley
