Well this momma ain't just a bunch of words and Scooter learned the hard way that I was right.
Yesterday afternoon Scooter and his friend N were playing outside. Scooter had a "new" tree he had found to climb and they were having fun playing outside in the yard.
It was a beautiful day and I had the windows open in the house so I could hear them out back.
I was cooking dinner and Tim was playing with Baby A when we both heard the scream. N came running through our back door yelling for us to come quickly.
Tim rushed out to find Scooter laying on the ground screaming. Sure enough he had fallen about 15 feet out of the tree. He got him up an checked him out and he was really banged up.
Morning came and there was no change. Still no swelling or bruising, but Scooter couldn't make a tight grip on things. He could play his ds but he couldn't grip a spoon or pencil tightly. I went back and forth on whether or not to send him to school. Finally I decided to send him to school and see how he did. Then as I was taking them to school I had the great idea to take them in and get the school's registered nurses' opinion. She looked at him and his wrist and said I better take him to get it x-rayed.
We left the school and got an appointment with our pediatrician. Once we got there Dr. Z took a look at his wrist and then checked out his collarbone and shoulder and his face too. He said everything but the wrist looked good but he wanted to have the wrist x-rayed. Scooter got a splint put on his wrist and we headed straight to get an x-ray.
I wanted to get pictures of him getting his first x-ray but wasn't sue if that was allowed. I did it any way and was trying to be sneaky so they aren't the best.
We didn't find anything out right away so we met up with Tim and had lunch with him. It was such a treat having lunch just Tim and I with Scooter (Baby A was staying with "Tinny" in case we had to go to the ER).
The phone call came and sure enough.....Scooter has fractured (broken) his wrist.
We head to see the orthopedic doctor early on Monday morning. Once we sit down and see just were it is broken at, I am sure they will be putting a cast on his arm. Scooter isn't too excited about having a cast put on his arm but maybe this will be a reminder that he shouldn't climb up in trees!

Scooter is looking so old! :( SO glad your little monkey is okay! I hope it freaks him out a little but my Dad did alot of climbing trees when he was younger and broke his arm once falling like that and it didn't change a thing. At least you shouldn't have to worry about it until his wrist heals! Hopefully!
ReplyDeletePoor guy! A neighbor kid climbed a tree in our yard a few years ago, fell and broke both his wrists. Scared the heck out of me! Luckily, none of my kids are big climbers. Hope he's on the mend :)
